TerraFlow Geomatics A Smarter UI for Field Teams

About the project

TerraFlow Geomatics develops tools for field teams that need high accuracy sketches, maps and automated data capture. 

Their suite of products support utilities, telecoms and waste management teams operating in multiple regions across Canada and US. 

As their customer base expanded, processing demands, compliance requirements, and daily usage intensified, necessitating a change.

Partnership and scope

I-Finity has supported TerraFlow through several product stages, from early proof of concept work to a suite of SaaS of enterprise applications.  For this phase, we redesigned the interface across five main applications:

• TerraFlow Mobile (Utility Mapper): Captures underground asset data with sketching functionality for real-time visualisation.
  
  
• Pole Mapper: Captures overhead utility data through laser range finders, GPS, and mobile technology.
  
  
• Surface Mapper: Provides real-time GPS monitoring for terrain and landfill compliance.
  
  
• Sensor Mapper: Collects and visualises data for radiation, electromagnetic, and sonar surveys.
  
  
• Data Engine: Manages automated data processing and integrations with external platforms.

TerraFlow engaged I-Finity to redesign their interface across core products, providing consistency and operational efficiencies through improved UX and UI, while ensuring the platform continues to scale without disrupting daily operations.

The challenge was clear and practical: improve daily workflows and user efficiency without disrupting ongoing operations.

How we approached the redesign

Working alongside TerraFlow’s product team, we rebuilt the interface. 

The goals were clear: streamline workflows, improve usability for field teams, and deliver a stable platform for growth.

Key deliverables included: 

• Rebuilding the UI using React: React, a leading JavaScript library for responsive, high-performance interfaces, it delivers a consistent and modern experience across all applications.
  
  
• Streamlining workflows: Reduced click paths and simplified navigation, enabling field users to complete tasks more efficiently.
  
  
• Implementing an incremental delivery plan: Adopted a phased rollout approach to maintain full operational uptime and minimise disruption during development.
  
  
• Optimising Azure-based architecture: Enhanced scalability, performance, and data security by refining infrastructure within Microsoft Azure’s cloud environment.
  
  
• Applying real user feedback: Integrated insights from actual field users to ensure every enhancement delivered meaningful, practical value.
  
  
• Continue to build on the scalable foundations: provides more support for future growth, third-party integrations, and continued UX evolution.

Results and Impact

The redesign elevated the UI/UX across the product suite, improving both visual consistency and operational performance.

Key outcomes include:

• Shorter task times for core workflows and performing of actions
• Improved customer satisfaction
• A modern, maintainable platform easily extendable for more integrations and new capabilities.
